ST-Ericsson and Linaro keeping the momentum alive at Linaro Connect in Hong Kong

Once again a very busy week at a Linaro Connect event has come to an end. This time the Linaro Connect 2012.Q2 event was held in Hong Kong with an attendance that broke earlier records. At the event there were engineers from all the different vendor members within Linaro, community developers and representatives from companies all over the world. This wonderful mixture of different cultures, technical expertise and companies in different markets added to the very dynamic atmosphere in the halls and rooms of the conference. There was a constant exchange of experiences, ideas and best practices, helping the ARM community to reach new levels and achievements. It did not take you long to find your first inspiring discussion, demo, person or session then you find yourself full of energy and become part of the collaborative event community.

During the week ST-Ericsson engineers spent many productive hours in the technical domains and working groups, together with their peers, to advance on their current assignments within Linaro. At the end of the week many of these engineers attended the Linaro Demo Friday not only as normal attendees but also as engineers displaying their work in the form of demos. The Demo Friday event was an event where ST-Ericsson’s Snowball development board based on the Nova™ A9500 architecture was well represented. Very exiting demos were displayed on the Snowball showing accelerated multimedia solutions, the performance on video playback even when not accelerated at all on the Ubuntu platform, XBMC on Snowball, Unity 3D and Ubuntu TV. The Snowball was also among the few in the world that even could consider running was the open source standards-based software platform Tizen.

During the week in Hong Kong many community developers and companies showed high interest in the Snowball. The Snowball development board is perfect for product development due to its rich feature set. “The Snowball board has everything!” is a statement that was heard more than once during the week in Hong Kong in the meetings with representatives from various companies, looking for a new development board and platform.

After this productive event the action lists are still long and will take time to act upon. One thing is for sure, there are many initiatives, proposals, ideas, agreements and discoveries to be followed up during the coming weeks and months until the next Linaro Connect event takes place.

Meanwhile do not hesitate to join the community, ecosystem and its different communication channels to see what is going on with Snowball, Igloo Community, Linaro and ARM. Your first visit should be to igloocommunity.org where you will find all the information you need and how to get into the loop.
